Huey Newton met my criteria for being a hero. He was strong, courageous, determined, and a leader. He gave them free breakfast, food, clothing, and medical tests. Huey Newton is a hero to me because he tried his best to make life better in local communities. A few years later he was shot and killed in a drug related issue. He fled the country and went to Cuba for three years. He became an addition to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s “Most Wanted” list. Soon after this, he refused to show up on the day of his court date. The FBI was on a mission to get rid of the Black Panthers because they offered free activities in the community and medical help. During this time, the Blank Panthers began to lose members while he was in jail. In September of 1968, he was accused of killing a police officer and was sentenced to two to fifteen years in prison. He created a program through the Black Panthers where he helped feed neighborhood children each day before school. They wanted to stop the violent abuse of African Americans by the police force because they were strongly against it.
